Lions Mauled In China

TIANJIN -- China hammered Singapore 6-1 at an international soccer friendly at the Tianjin Olympic Sports Center here on Friday.

Yu Dabao opened the scoring in the 7th minute with an accurate shot after Yang Hao's long pass picked Sun Ke in the penalty area before the latter squared the ball to the left facing an advancing keeper Hassan Sunny.

The guests levelled soon from a clumsy back pass by Yang Hao, which forced central back Zheng Zhi to make a bad touch to assist his rival Shahfiq Ghani.

The hosts then controlled the game with obvious advantage. Yu Dabao put China ahead again with a well-curved shot from the edge of the box on 31 minutes after some dazzling change of one-touch passes.

Midfielder Zhang Xizhe converted an penalty kick before Sun Ke netted home the fourth at the last minutes of the first half.

Both teams made several changes in the second half, substitute Zheng Long scored a brace in the 70th and 85th minute to seal victory for China.

The Chinese team is preparing for the upcoming 2015 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers. China are competing with Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Indonesia in Group C, and next will play back-to-back games against Indonesia on Oct. 15 and Nov. 15.

COMMENT -Since three straight defeats against Thailand. Uzbekistan and Netherlands, China are on a tasty unbeaten run with draws against bitter rivals South Korea and Japan along with a win in Australia.

They play Malaysia on Tuesday while Singapore go on to play Hong Kong on the same day.

Indonesia on the other hand have nothing lined up for the international dates the rest of the world seems to have no problem following.

And, of course, they [lau China next month in AFC Asian Cup qualifying.
